I perch at a large wooden share table in the middle of the room, pick at some Holy Goat soft cheese, sip a local red and chat with one of Victoria’s brightest young winemakers, Owen Latta; who has his hands in all the right winemaking pots, or should I say, tanks. Together we swirl, taste and chat, and I wonder when does Owen find time for all that wine making.
With two main wine labels under his management, Eastern Peake and Appellation Ballarat, Owen is a busy man. In addition to this he consults for other wineries as well as helping out partner Jenny Sheahan run their twelve-month-old bottle shop, Wine and the Country which is smart and inviting and as busy as ever. To top this all off he is about to launch a third label, Latta next month.
